UK taxpayers are subsidising arms companies by hundreds of millions of pounds a year to export misery and destruction around the world. While the UK government spends billions on military technology we do not need, vital public services are being cut.
The arms trade also tries to buy the impression of public respectability by buying into our public institutions; getting involved in schools and sponsoring museums. By agreeing these deals, public institutions are supporting the arms trade: giving both practical support and a veneer of legitimacy to an industry based on death and destruction.
As part of the week of action against the DSEI arms fair, get involved in a day of action against austerity and to get arms trade out of public institutions.
- Conference at the Gates: a workshop on militarism and education
- Students Against Arms Trade gathering
